Taking a product mindset off the digital shelf: translating design thinking principles to storytelling

In this session, you’ll hear from speakers who have taken design thinking beyond newsroom products by incorporating the principles into the reporting process.

As many newsrooms are trying to be more intentional about reaching and serving their audiences, journalists are becoming more familiar with design thinking. This panel discussion will describe how the process that improves the presentation of stories can also improve the stories themselves. Attendees will hear from journalists who have adapted design thinking steps such as “empathize” and “define” to put the audience at the center of the reporting process, resulting in stories more likely to engage people who care about or are affected by them.
