Meeting us people where we are: Reaching young audiences on emerging platforms

We’ll discuss how to create news content for young audiences in a responsible, accessible way on social media, apps and new platforms

We’ll bring together digital and legacy publishers who have built younger audiences by creating innovative news content on Snapchat, Instagram, Twitch, TikTok(!?) and more to discuss how to authentically reach youth and speak their language. We’ll discuss what our responsibility is to uphold different ethics and choices when distributing content on platforms that predominantly attract 13-25 year olds. In this session/panel you’ll see a showcase of innovative storytelling on emerging platforms and hear best practices and useful tips on how to experiment in your newsroom. We’ll also work collaboratively with session attendees build a set of basic editorial standards and practices aimed specifically at young readers/viewers/users – that we can all take back to our newsrooms.
