“Engagement” and its 100 definitions. Let’s give it meaning again.

Mapping the many interpretations of “engagement” onto a single, unified framework.

“No one knows what it means, but it’s provocative … it gets the people going!” Will Ferrell / Kanye West may as well have been talking about engagement, the term with seemingly endless interpretations.

This session will be part presentation, part group brainstorming / workshop, focused on sorting the many, many definitions and approaches to “engagement” onto a single framework that can be used as common ground. From attention to participation, online to offline, and key considerations between. Based on an extensive, ongoing research project by the team at Readefined, representing many different perspectives.

Given all the hype around the term, and its role in the sustainable future of journalism, it’s important to have more clarity around what it actually means, before diving into metrics, strategies, and everything else on tap for debate… lest we fall pray to more blind pursuits, as we did with clicks.

This session is for:
Anyone working in (or interested in) audience engagement
Anyone frustrated by, or skeptical of, the blanket obsession with engagement
Those responsible for audience or community strategy
