Dissecting Immersion: How to craft immersive stories…on purpose

A workshop to learn how immersion works and how to combine key variables that help reinforce it.

“Dissecting Immersion” is a hands-on workshop exploring the keys to craft immersive narratives. Participants will learn how to combine essential variables that create and reinforce immersion, including sound, color and engagement.

The session invites an expansion of our understanding around the implications of immersive worldbuilding as a possibility space, where discovery is as important as plot. Attendees will explore the richness of human interaction as a journey that activates different potentialities or perceptions, experiencing the concepts of human interface, neo-narrative structures and designing for error.

For decades, journalism has done an effective job observing, documenting and telling stories to portray our realities. But as immersive technologies and narratives continue to evolve, our role as storytellers, educators and even citizens has been put to the test.

We invite you to step outside the box and ask new questions, such as:
What is it like to step inside stories with our whole bodies? If the body is used as an interface, is it used as an element of diversity, interaction or colonization? How do you narrate through emotional story nodes? What does it take to make our story or coverage immersive by principle?

This is both a workshop and an experience to discover the transformative spirit of spatial narratives.
