Cool sh*t teens are doing on emerging platforms — and what that means for the future of media

Creative tools and online communities are evolving faster and faster. Let’s get ready for Gen Z.

It’s not as simple as “pivoting to video” — Gen Z are multi-format, multi-platform, creators and consumers. I call them “generation participation,” because their interaction with content is all about connection and immersion.

In this talk I’ll cover how to prepare for a younger audience in a practical, holistic way: building entry points for younger users into products/brands, behavioral trends related specifically to tech, how young content creators make money (what is an MCN and are they working?), the importance of individual creators for the future of media creation and distribution.

I led teen strategy & emerging trends at Instagram for three years, and before that I was the director of content strategy at the Huffington Post. I straddle both adult media world and teen content world, and I feel a real personal urgency to make the gap between them feel smaller.
