Art & Journalism

When is journalism art? And when does art commit acts of journalism?

Acts of journalism are committed through various art forms — from animation to drawing, photography to comedy — every day. Indeed, thanks to the internet, more and more artists are able to communicate information through creative work. Meanwhile, journalists borrow practices from the art world to tell more effective stories. What are the ethical and practical challenges of using art as a reporting tool? What are the limitations? And what can reporters learn at the borderland between truth in art and truth in journalism? In this session, we will survey art that performs journalistic acts, and explore the complex the relationship between fact and form.
