Claire Wardle

Claire Wardle is one of the world’s experts on user-generated content (UGC), verification and misinformation, authoring the seminal report - Information Disorder: An interdisciplinary Framework for Research and Policy for the Council of Europe in 2017. She has also led substantial research projects, investigating how UGC is handled by news organizations, first for the BBC in 2008, and then in 2014 for the Tow Center for Digital Journalism. Claire also leads strategic direction and research for First Draft, a non-profit that provides training and support for newsrooms focused on the challenges of reporting in an age of disinformation. Before First Draft, she was a Fellow at the Shorenstein Center for Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard's Kennedy School and the Research Director at the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She holds a PhD in Communications from the University of Pennsylvania.
