Regular visitor who loves to wander? While there\u2019s a boatload of must-see programming at our conference this year, there\u2019s also a whole history of one of the oldest places in the United States to explore just beyond the doors of the Sheraton and Intercontinental hotels.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have an hour or two to spare during the day, here\u2019s a little walking tour that takes you to six interesting geographical and cultural sites in the French Quarter. (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/oQV45QuzBPvZUHmR9\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">See this route on Google Maps<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Audubon Aquarium of the Americas<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walk down Canal Street towards towards the river. At the very end is the Audubon Aquarium, one of New Orleans\u2019 most beloved exhibits of the Gulf ecosystem. But while it\u2019s a great place to visit, the spot you want is in front of the Aquarium entrance, where there\u2019s a small plaza facing the river. Jackson Square is surrounded by historic buildings like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/louisianastatemuseum.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St. Louis Cathedral, the Cabildo and the Presbyt\u00e8re<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If you have some time, wander inside the latter two for fascinating exhibits about old New Orleans. Also, the famous\u00a0 Caf\u00e9 du Monde is just steps away, so it\u2019s a good place to break for a caf\u00e9 au lait and beignets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facing St. Louis Cathedral, you\u2019ll see a small alleyway between it and the Cabildo \u2014 that\u2019s Pirate Alley. Walk down the alley until you get to:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Faulkner House Books<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This bookstore, a national literary landmark, is housed in the old residence of William Faulkner. In 1925, Faulkner rented rooms here and wrote his first novel, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soldiers\u2019 Pay<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s a lot of mystery surrounding Pirate Alley itself. Rumors have it that pirates caught in the Gulf were led through the alley to be held in the prison in the Cabildo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From Pirate Alley, take a right on Royal St. and walk until you get to the:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rodrigue Studio<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This gallery shows artwork by the late Louisiana artist, George Rodrigue.
