Collaborating For Impact: “Case Cleared” Investigative Partnership<\/a><\/h4>\n

“Case Cleared” is a data-heavy investigation by Newsy, Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting and ProPublica that aimed to uncover policing failures. The team analyzed data from the internal case management systems of every policy agency in the U.S. serving 300,000 people or more. Join\u00a0Mark Fahey<\/strong>\u00a0of Scripps DC Bureau and\u00a0Bernice Yeung<\/strong>\u00a0of ProPublica to learn about techniques for gathering police data and reporting that ultimately impacts law and policy.<\/p>\n

Investigating the Country of 2000 Graves: Public Records, Human Rights and Collaborative Journalism<\/a><\/h4>\n

Join this session to take a close look at an 18-month investigation by independent journalists in Mexico to document illegal burials. Working remotely and with few resources, they developed an interactive database that revealed that between 2006 and 2016, nearly 2,000 clandestine graves were discovered across 24 states in Mexico and in one out of every seven municipalities.<\/p>\n

Collaborative, Cross-Platform and Crowd-Sourced: ABC Australia’s Nationwide Aged-Care Investigation<\/a><\/h4>\n

In September 2018, ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) launched a crowdsourced, investigative project on aged care in Australia to uncover stories of abuse, neglect and premature death. More than 4,000 people responded to the call for stories. Hear from\u00a0Flip Prior<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Jo Puccini<\/strong>\u00a0what they learned about asking for stories from their audience, engaging internal teams and collaborating with other news organizations. They will also share workflows and tools to set up your own collaborative projects.<\/p>\n

Storytelling in Spanish: “DACAmentation” and Getting Young Latinx Voices Online and On Air<\/a><\/h4>\n

If you are looking to improve your understanding of young, Latinx America or your strategy for recruiting Latinx journalists, this session is for you.\u00a0Edie Rubinowitz<\/strong>,\u00a0Fernando Moreno<\/strong>,\u00a0Catherine Perez\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Monzerrath Gaytan<\/strong>\u00a0will share lessons learned from producing the “DACAmentation” podcast, a project by Northeastern Illinois University and Spanish Public Radio that was among the\u00a02018 winners<\/a>\u00a0of the Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism Education.<\/p>\n
