When a hedge fund gutted the Denver Post, Colorado civic leaders rallied to support local news across state, from digital start ups to traditional outlets

In spring 2018, when Alden Global Capital made deep cuts to The Denver Post, Colorado civic leaders rallied. The Denver-based Gates Family Foundation hosted community meetings, commissioned research, and organized local leaders to invest time and resources to found the Colorado Media Project (CMP). CMP is boosting local news across the state, from traditional outlets to digital start ups, providing resources and shouting from the mountain tops about the importance of local news in our democracy.
